How it works: Our Men’s Health check process at Brecken Health Bunbury
When you visit Brecken Health Bunbury for men’s health services, we aim to make the process simple, comfortable, and centred around your wellbeing.
Book an appointment
You can book online at any time or speak with our friendly reception team to find a time that works best for you.
Initial health assessment
During your appointment, our doctors will talk through any symptoms, questions, or concerns you may have. We’ll complete any relevant examinations or screenings, depending on your age, lifestyle, and medical history.
Personalised care plan
Based on your assessment, we’ll put together a tailored health plan — this may include lifestyle recommendations, treatment options, medication where appropriate, or referrals for further tests or specialist care.
Follow-up and ongoing support
If follow-up care is needed, we’ll arrange any future appointments to help you stay on track and feel your best.
All consultations take place in a private, calm environment, supported by modern facilities and a team committed to delivering high-quality men’s health care.
How often should men get a health check?
We recommend a yearly comprehensive check-up for men aged 40 and over, or earlier if you have risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease. Younger men (under 40) should still have a general check every 1–2 years to monitor blood pressure, cholesterol, mental health and lifestyle factors.
In Western Australia, regular checks are especially important due to higher rates of skin cancer, so GPs often include a routine skin check, particularly if you work outdoors or spend a lot of time in the sun.
Are men’s health checks covered by Medicare in WA?
Yes — most men’s health checks can be bulk billed or partly covered by Medicare, depending on the GP clinic. Standard GP consultation fees are eligible for Medicare rebates, and specific services like blood tests, prostate screening (PSA), and heart health checks may also be covered.
WA men aged 45–49 with risk factors for chronic conditions may be eligible for a Medicare-subsidised Health Assessment, and men over 75 can access an annual “75+ Health Assessment”. Always check with your local WA GP clinic about pricing, as it varies by practice.
